Best/Worst of the Generation
What do you think was the best advancement to gaming in gen 7, and what was the biggest drawback? For me indie games were the best, and microtransactions were the worst.

I actually pretty much agree with that. I love indie games (obviously, I guess) and I hate microtransactions. I pretty much refuse to buy anything like that. I'd much rather pay full price for a complete game. I'm still pretty mad what they did to Plants Vs. Zombies 2. It's "free" but if you want to play the intended way it cost like $200. Also congratulations on becoming the first "cool user".

Haha thanks. Yeah F2P sequels usually kill the franchise. I'm a bit worried about Nintendo's new venture into F2P but I bet they'll handle it well like they do with DLC.

Yeah I have confidence Nintendo won't go overboard. Animal Crossing New Leaf is a game they could have done tons of micro transactions and they didn't do any.
Re: Best/Worst of the Generation
Exactly. It would just kill AC, and most other Nintendo franchises, too imo

Re: Best/Worst of the Generation
That's the great thing about Nintendo though. It's different than the other systems and has its own unique fan base. It knows how to treat it's customers by not nickel and diming them on incomplete titles much like the other consoles. Even the DLC that it does provide is relatively cheap such as the Pikmin DLC and the DLC for NSMB 2. I agree with the both of you that Indie games is a major plus and microtransactions is a major negative of the generation. Another positive I would like to include would be cloud storage and the ability to purchase titles digitally.

Right. F2P should be the only genre with microtransactions. $60 games using them is what's wrong with the world

Re: Best/Worst of the Generation
The worst perpetrator is Capcom having the DLC on the disc already only to charge for them to be unlocked. I believe it was Street Fighter X Tekken they did this with. What happened to the good ol' days of grinding through bosses to unlock secret characters?!?

Agreed. On disc DLC is the worst. I refuse to ever buy any of that. They are just trying to mask the fact that the game is really like $80 or more dollars.
Re: Best/Worst of the Generation
I really hate the whole idea of planned DLC. Planning to HAVE DLC is fine, but when "waves"are distributed, it just shows how they could've used a fraction of the time that they're making the DLC to put it in the game. Pikmin's was ideal. Giving free levels to entice players is genius.

I hate dlc no matter what, it is always planned, and it is overpriced half the time, and on top of that, it keeps something away from you in a game you paid for.
